Christmas Movies at the Farm

A custom event booking WordPress site for a festive cinema event, with tailored ticketing logic built around an unusual venue and booking flow.

This custom WordPress event booking website was built for a one-off festive cinema experience that needed more than a basic event listing page. The organisers needed a site that could promote the event clearly, handle ticket sales smoothly, and support some unusual booking requirements tied to the venue.

What They Needed

They needed a site that felt warm and seasonal, but the more important job was making the booking flow work properly.

  • A bespoke WordPress site tailored to the event branding.Integration with The Events Calendar and event ticketing tools.
  • Custom booking logic for grouped bookings, flexible seating, and limited-capacity showings.
  • A smooth mobile-friendly experience for browsing showings and buying tickets.

The real challenge was that the venue and event format did not fit neatly into a standard plugin setup.

How I Helped

An Event Booking Website Built Around The Venue

I approached it as a Custom WordPress Website Build with tailored event functionality rather than relying on an off-the-shelf events template.

  • I designed and built a custom WordPress theme around the branding and feel of the event.
  • I used The Events Calendar and ticketing plugins as a base where they made sense.
  • I extended the booking setup to handle grouped bookings, venue-specific constraints, and limited-capacity sessions.
  • I kept the frontend simple so visitors could find a showing and complete a booking without friction.
  • I built the site to stay lightweight and fast despite the short turnaround and seasonal context.

This was a good example of using plugins pragmatically but still reshaping the booking flow where the default behaviour was too rigid.

Results

The site gave the organisers a clean public presence and a booking system that worked for the event as it actually ran.

  • A custom WordPress site with a stronger, more tailored event presentation.
  • Ticketing flow adapted to the venue’s unusual requirements.
  • Simple mobile-friendly browsing and purchasing experience.
  • Full sell-out of the event, with the site handling the booking process cleanly.

The biggest gain was that the event had a booking system that fit the format instead of forcing the format into a generic plugin workflow.

A fantastic experience, very helpful, responsive and knowledgeable with a top class product. I would 100 percent recommend Ray for any project. Top work.

Why It Worked

This worked because the build combined a custom frontend with targeted extensions to the booking logic rather than trying to solve everything at the theme level or everything at the plugin level.

The main decisions that mattered were:

  • building a bespoke theme instead of using a generic event template
  • extending the events setup only where the venue rules needed it
  • keeping the booking flow straightforward for visitors
  • focusing on practical event handling rather than feature bloat

That is what made the site feel tailored and usable instead of temporary and awkward.

For sites that need a tailored build rather than a generic WordPress setup, Custom WordPress Website Builds is a good place to start.

If the project depends on plugin extension or event-related workflows beyond normal setup, Custom WordPress Development is also worth a look.
