A Quiet Site That Lets the Work Speak
Photojournalism UK is the website of a British photojournalist and author — created to showcase his photography and sell two published books. The brief was simple: keep the site understated, content-focused, and easy to manage. No visual clutter, no unnecessary features — just a clean platform that supports the work rather than competes with it.
What Was Needed
- A straightforward site to introduce the author and his work
- WooCommerce setup for book sales and optional extras
- A design that stayed out of the way and let the imagery lead
- Fast performance, lean build, and long-term maintainability
How I Helped
I designed and built the site using WordPress and WooCommerce — choosing a lightweight, well-supported starter theme as the foundation. The whole build was centred around simplicity and clarity, both for visitors and the site owner.
Clear, Minimal Layout
The homepage introduces the author, with space for imagery, background, and links to purchase the books. No sliders or distractions — just focused content blocks designed to guide visitors naturally toward a sale.
WooCommerce, Done Properly
Each book is listed as a WooCommerce product, with clear options for different formats (hardcover, paperback, etc.), and the ability to include extras like signed copies. I kept the checkout flow streamlined and tested everything on mobile to make sure it worked smoothly on any device.
Built for the Long Haul
The site uses no bloated plugins or page builders — just clean, maintainable code and a modular structure that can grow if needed. Custom settings and product options were added only where necessary to keep things efficient.
Results
- A clean, intuitive site that reflects the tone of the books
- Simple product listings and purchase flow that users understand
- A fast, lightweight build with no unnecessary complexity
- Easy for the author to manage day to day, with room to grow
This project is a great example of how simplicity — when done right — can be a strength. No gimmicks, just a focused, reliable site that gets out of the way and lets the work take the spotlight.
